Book Review: “Skinny Bitch”

Authors: Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin

A no-nonsense, tough-love guide for savvy girls who want to stop eating crap and start looking fabulous!

…And boy does it live up to the expectation!  This sassy, blunt perspective on getting thin is sure to give you the kick in the pants you need to get your bod in tip top shape.  These skinny bitches will call you out for your every bad habit and put you on the hot seat.  I found this book incredibly inspiring and motivating.  It gave me a needed shove into changing my diet and getting myself on a positive track.

The book is broken down into different topics breaking down all the bad habits you could possibly have which keep you from getting skinny.  While reading, I noted majority of the book it telling you what you’re doing wrong, what to stop doing, what not to eat, etc. leaving me inspired but totally lost.  Okay so I can’t do this or eat that…what can I eat?  However, all your questions will be answered as later the break down what to eat and how to ensure you keep all the necessary macro- and micronutrients your body needs to be in tip-top shape.

The most surprising point in this book is the push they give you to change to a vegan lifestyle.  They put forth a very strong, convincing argument with factual information as well as emotional pull.  They explain how animal meat and products negatively impact the body and leave a trail of lbs all along your body in the most unflattering of ways.  They also go into the inhumane treatment and slaughtering of the animals as well as how you are then eating the stress hormones they produced just before being slaughtered which in turn gives you these shitty hormones and negatively impacts your health.  After reading this book, I am seriously considering trying a lifestyle change and seeing how it goes.  As I’m living in a dorm and do not have access to a kitchen, this change will not be the most feasible as of yet, but I’m going to see what I can do.  Stay tuned for a post on a “One Week Vegan Challenge” which I will be working on soon!

I picked up this book because lately I have felt uncomfortable in my skin and I have wanted to get myself on track into a place where I am confident.  This book gave me so much inspiration and it was genuinely enjoyable.  I have a long way to go to get myself where I want to be, but, with some of the guidance provided in this book, I am confident I can make the changes needed to get there.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to get in shape and make a change. And don’t knock it before you try it!  A lot of people think self-help books like these are pathetic and stupid, but this is not like those books!  It’s seriously a great read.  Enjoy your reading!
